Federation of Veterinarians of Europe

The main partner of the campaign (with the European Commission) for the actions on biosecurity at farm level is the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE) – an umbrella organisation of veterinary groups from 36 European countries.

Founded in 1975, the FVE represents all kinds of associations of veterinarians at national and European level: practitioners, hygienists, veterinary state officers, and veterinarians in education, research and industry. Their direct members are either veterinary unions from the Member States or official bodies representing veterinarians.

The FVE’s mission is to unite the European veterinary profession for the benefit of animal health, animal welfare and public health. It works to assemble opinions from all members of the European veterinary body and to formulate these opinions into one corporate voice, with the motto: One profession, one vision, one voice!
The FVE believes that there is a need for reviewing and re-enforcing biosecurity measures at farm level. Most of the current emerging diseases are zoonoses that affect both animals and humans and therefore require a unified approach between veterinary and human medicine. Such a 'One Health' approach will benefit animal and human health worldwide.
